2024 WAMBA Impact Report

"WAMBA’s rising reputation as home to Vermont’s best trails is made possible by the generosity of landowners, the expertise of our trail crew, the dedication of tireless volunteers, and the vital support of our members and Local Partners. Thank you to everyone who helped make 2024 an extraordinary year for outdoor recreation in the Woodstock area!"

-Matt Stout, WAMBA President

Trails. Teamwork. Community.
That’s how WAMBA Rolls.

  • Trails

33,000+ users! That’s how many riders our Trail Counters measured on Mt. Peg and the Aqueduct Trails networks. Counters were provided by a generous grant from the Laurance & Mary Rockefeller Fund.

    • Woodstock trails are earning their reputation as some of Vermont’s finest! Our dedicated Trail Crew (Gavin Vaughan and Graham Farrington) has delivered another year of amazing work rehabilitating and maintaining more than 30 miles of purpose-built, singletrack trails across our three networks (Mt. Peg Trails, Aqueduct Trails & Saskadena 6 Trails).

    • We rehabilitated more than 2.5 miles of trails (Nick’s Hood, Drop Into the Hood, Honest Abe, Kent’s Connector), transforming classic New England singletrack into machine-built, accessible trail, capable of hosting riders at all levels. The Kelly Brush Foundation and Vermont Adaptive will perform an Adaptive Assessment early next spring.

    • We acquired a plate compactor to expedite and improve our work. It has already paid for itself in hand-tamping hours saved!

    • Renamed our trails surrounding Nick’s Hood to make navigation easier.

    • This spring, we worked with the S6 mountain ops team rebuilding berms on the blue and black trails to create both safer riding and skiing experiences on the mountain.

    • The Aqueduct Pump Track was given a complete refresh in early spring.

Schist Creek, perhaps Mt. Peg’s most challenging technical trail, was revamped to fix erosion, and increase durability with added technical features.

Sir Berms-a-Lot, our most ridden trail, received a full drainage update early this spring. Through weather and tremendous use, the trail has held up incredibly well.

  • Teamwork

Group rides continue to be a WAMBA hallmark. From April to October, we offered group rides 4 nights per week including: Youth Rides (Gr 5-12), Kids Rides (Gr 1-4), Women’s Rides, MTB Rides (open to all), and our Wednesday Night Gravel Rides. This much community riding takes a tremendous effort from many volunteers. Thank you!

    • More than 700 volunteer trail work hours were logged in the rebuild of Mt. Peg’s North End trails.

    • In addition to volunteers, this rehab on Mt. Peg was made possible by generous grants from the Jack & Dorothy Byrne Foundation, and a VMBA Trails Grant.

    • WAMBA’s Local Partners program set a new record for support this year. We’re grateful to each of our partners for their contributions towards our trails.

    • Our friends at Ranch Camp and The Ranger paid Woodstock an early-season visit to host a free Ranger Pre-Ride. A tremendous gravel event with a proper community apres celebration afterwards!

    • The Schist Creek rehabilitation was funded through the generosity of a VMBA Naming Grant from our friends at Velocio.

    • WAMBA members served up world-class aid station support for the Vermont Overland. We are proud to be a charity partner of this world-class event.

    • We partnered with VT business Hubnotic to offer WAMBA apparel to riders. 25% of all proceeds support our trails.

    • The VMBA Members Party came to Woodstock for the second year in a row. WAMBA led group rides and Triple Crowns, while the VMBA crew through a world-class party at S6.

    • Our Local Partner Karbon hosted a demo day at S6, as did our friends at Base Camp, who sponsored a Pivot Demo Day. Great turnouts and great bikes on both days!

  • Community

    • Membership reached an all-time high, approaching 500 for the year.

    •  The Woodstock Triple Crown was another smashing success. More than 120 riders earned a crown, coming from all over New England to participate. This is 50% growth in participation over last year. Our Local Partners stepped up by donating more than 25 prizes for riders.

    • The Woodstock Economic Development Commission (EDC) provided a generous grant to support WAMBA’s ability to host the Eastern States Cup. We’re grateful to our community for standing behind WAMBA!

    • Hosted the Maxxis Eastern States Cup for the third year in a row, welcoming more than 200 of New England’s top enduro riders for a weekend festival.

    • Mt. Peg played host to two incredibly successful youth races: The VTYC Fall Enduro and the Northern New England High School Race Series Championship. Each race welcomed nearly amazing young 300 riders and their families.

    • While WAMBA takes no credit for the resounding VTYC and Northern New England High School championships earned by our MS/HS team, we know how important our youth programs are for inspiring an early love of riding. GO WOODSTOCK!
